Introduction

Hello, I'm Bethany (she/her) a current PhD psychology researcher and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Edge Hill University.

I am an aspiring academic, interested in  gender, identity, gaming, STEM, imposter syndrome, social psychology and cyberpsychology. My passion for equality, diversity and inclusion is reflected in my active role as a member of the Athena Swan group, the Inclusion, Diversity, and Identity research network, and as an ambassador for Women in Games (WIGJ): https://www.womeningames.org/ambassadors/individuals/ 

Teaching

I have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education gaining distinctions on each assignment, and thus have been awarded as an associate fellow of the higher education academy (AFHEA, pending FHEA). As a graduate teaching assistant at EHU, I have taught across various modules including: Research methods and data analysis, Essential Skills in Applied Psychology, Introduction to Personality, Social and Developmental Psychology, Applying Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Biological Psychology, Research methods and data analysis, Cognitive Psychology. I have also participated in outreach events such as 'CyberSchool'.

My Studies in Psychology

Psychological Research methods with Advanced statistics MSc @ Sheffield
As my MSc included the advanced statistics module  I learnt advanced statistical methods primarily using R and RStudio, alongside SPSS syntax.

Modules I completed on this course included;
Psychological Research Methods; Professional Skills for Psychologists; Intermediate Statistics (using SPSS syntax),
Advanced Statistics (using RStudio), Systematically Reviewing Research.

Psychology
BSc @ Chester
Some of the assignments I found most interesting during my undergraduate degree included:
- A critical analysis of social psychological theories based on the behaviour of the main character of a film, Deadpool 
- As part of the Psychology of Arts, Music and the Media I created a piece of work focused on “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone, covered by Muse, and compared these considering psychological theories.

I took a range of modules including:
Research Methods in Psychology; Core Topics in Psychology; Psychology of Identity, Community and Diversity; Recent Developments and Trends in Psychology; Social and Individual Psychology; Animal Psychology; Becoming a Researcher; Enhancing your Employability; Understanding the Mind; Psychological Therapies; Psychological Well-Being (Abnormal and Health Psychology); Biological Psychology; Developmental Psychology; Forensic and Criminal Psychology.
